THE CUSTOMER
HeidelbergCement is one of the world’s largest building materials companies. With the takeover of the Italian cement producer Italcementi, HeidelbergCement became the number 1 in aggregates production, number 2 in cement, and number 3 in ready-mixed concrete. Ciments du Maroc, an HeidelbergCement group company, is the second biggest cement producer in Morocco.
THE NEED
HeidelbergCement Group has the aim to reach, in the medium-term, 50 megawatts of installed capacity in Morocco from renewable sources, making a significant contribution to the group's energy requirements and its commitment to sustainable development. The installation of this pilot CSP project is part of Italcementi strategic commitment to sustainable development.
OUR SOLUTION
In 2010 Turboden supplied a 2 MWe ORC unit to recover the extra heat available from the raw material pre-heater. The plant has been integrated in 2014 with modular solar collector system from the Swiss company Airlight Energy. The solar field, made by 3 high-temperature big-scale solar collector assemblies is coupled with a rocks thermal storage to provide up to additional 3.9 MWth peak thermal power to the ORC.
