THE CUSTOMER
O.R.I. Martin Spa is an electric furnace steel mill producing special steels for various applications mainly in the automotive, mechanical, energy and construction sectors.
THE NEED
O.R.I. Martin, a company with a great attention to sustainability and environmental impact, has chosen Turboden technology for its main plant in Brescia in order to maximize its energy efficiency by exploiting the large availability of waste heat from the production process.
OUR SOLUTION
Through the use of a large scale heat pump Turboden will recover the low temperature waste heat coming from the cooling circuit of the EAF electric arc furnace. This heat will then be exploited by feeding it into the district heating network of the city of Brescia.
The pump will deliver a thermal power of 6 MWt and will be able to adapt its operation to the specific process conditions, maximising energy recovery from the plant. In addition, it will be able to adjust the heat transfer temperature according to the specific demand of the district heating network, up to a maximum of 120°C.
The project will contribute to the decarbonisation process of the city of Brescia.
