THE CUSTOMER
Schluderns-Glurns Energie Genossenschaft is a cooperative operating in the energy sector and telecommunication of Sud Tirol. Starting their activities in the 2000s, now it owns and operates several power plants to produce electricity and thermal power for district heating. The main production plant is situated in Schludern where a Turboden T450 CHP is installed since 2005.
THE NEED
The ORC system, fed by wood residues collected in the area, is the main source of thermal and electric power for the Schludern district heating system. The aim of the company is to operate the ORC during all winter season without unexpected failures or problems to always guarantee heat and power to customers. Due to the long life of the plant and to avoid the risk of component failures, some revamping activities and heavy maintenance was required.
OUR SOLUTION
To extend the life of the installation and to guarantee availability of the system in the future years, Turboden overhauled the main components of the ORC. Turbine, electric generator and safety valves have been completely revamped at our warehouse, in particular these type of works are our After Sales core business.
Main focus of the complete revamping was on the heat exchangers. After fluid analysis, thermal calculations, and simulations, the preheater was replaced with a new type. This new “state of the art” heat exchanger will guarantee constant production, reliability and low maintenance requirement.
The ORC has now gained other 10 years of expected life.
